Third Annual Newport Review Flash Fiction Contest
Winners Announced
Winning stories have been chosen in the 2007 Newport Review Flash Fiction Contest. We are happy this year to award publication and prizes to a veteran writer, Bob Thurber, as well as two writers new to the world of publishing, Natalie Beach and Emily Oliver.
First Prize of $100 and publication was awarded to Bob Thurber, North Attleboro, MA, for “Wooden Matches."
Second Prize of $75 and publication was awarded to Natalie K. Beach, New Haven, CT, for “Morning Sickness."
Third Prize of $50 and publication was awarded to Emily Oliver, Newtown, CT, for “Marks.”
Two stories were awarded Honorable Mention: “Will-O’-the-Wisp" by Natalie K. Beach, New Haven, CT, and “Clear Vision,” by Dimetra Makris, Amherst, MA.
The deadline for the contest was October 31, 2007. The first, second and third prize winning stories will be published in the Spring 2008 issue of Newport Review. Honorable mention stories will be published in either the Spring or Summer issue.
2008 Contest
We will be reading stories for the fourth annual Newport Review Flash Fiction Contest starting June 1, 2008, and continuing through July and August. The deadline will be September 1, 2008.
We are looking for works that are short in length but
linger long in memory: small stories that pack a big
emotional punch and make creative use of language.
Complete Contest Guidelines:
Deadline: Postmarked by September 1, 2008
Word Count: Short-short stories up to 750 words
Entry fee: $7 per story, 3 for $20
Mail manuscripts w/check or money order (made out to

Manuscripts should include writer's name and complete
contact information, including email and phone. Include a business-size SASE if you wish notification of contest results. Manuscripts will not be
returned unless requested; include SASE with sufficient
return postage.
Unfortunately, we are not set up to accept PayPal or e-mail
contest submissions at this time.
Writers may submit a total of six entries. The contest is
open to all writers, published and unpublished, except
writers personally affiliated with the Newport Review, its
editorial staff or board of directors. Past contest winners
and those who have been published in the print edition of
Newport Review are eligible to enter.

Honorable Mention: Publication
Prize-winning stories and stories
receiving honorable mention will be published in a future
issue of Newport Review. Other stories may also be
considered for publication.
