About Us

Newport Review is an independent online journal of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and visual art. We publish twice yearly and sponsor an annual flash fiction contest.

Newport Review was founded by award-winning poet and writer Michele Cooper. It began publication in Newport, Rhode Island in the 1980s and published as a print journal for many years. Kathryn Kulpa became managing editor in 2007, taking the journal from print to an all-online format.

We seek to publish innovative, language-rich fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction. We are also open to prose poetry, one-act plays, graphic stories and experimental forms. Each issue features one visual artist. Our preference is photography, but we will consider other art submissions as well.

We are also planning more contests, readings, writing workshops and other events. Check our blog or join our Facebook group for announcements about upcoming projects.
